Celica Arfonia (セリカ＝アルフォネア, Serika Arufonea), also known as the "Witch of Ashes" (灰燼の魔女, Kaijin no Majo), is the adoptive mother of Glenn Radars and the former operative #21, "The World" of the Imperial Court Mage Corps Special Missions Annex. She is renowned as the greatest mage on the continent and one of the heroes of humanity.[1]
Background
It is largely unknown of her background as Celica has forgotten her memories prior to the 400 years, beside her involvement in the Fengumi War that occurred 40 years prior to the series and being was part of the "The Six Heroes".

Some point after the war, she joined the Alzano Empire's Imperial Court Mage Corps, where she adopted a young boy named Glenn Radars who she took him under her wing and taught him the magic. Afterwards, due to an unknown reason, Celica decided to leave the corps and became a professor at the Alzano Imperial Magic Academy.
Appearance
Although she is several centuries old, Celica has the appearance of a young beautiful woman of average height and weight. She has fair pale skin, sharp garnet- ruby eyes and long golden blonde hair, that cascades pass down her back and has a half-up hair style with a braid in which hangs over her left shoulder and has blonde bangs that cover her forehead, with a rose pin attached to the side of her hair. With an ample bust and a curvy physique, she has a very seductive body that she can utilize to tease Glenn. She is usually seen wearing a long back dress that has a red ruffle at the very bottom to match the color of the red pin in her hair, it is accompanied by long black gloves that go up right to the caps of her shoulders and black heels, she is also seen wearing a black ribbon around her neck, however, it's design in manga and anime were different.
Personality
Celica is a wise and intelligent woman who can be playful at times but behaves according to the situation. She cares deeply for Glenn, worried about his welfare as she recommended him as the new substitute teacher for class 2 and to the point of putting her reputation at stake.[2] She has built a big reputation at the Alzano Magic Imperial Academy as well as throughout the country. She likes to often tease Glenn with her antics causing him to feel embarrassed, but is very supportive of Glenn and his students and is willing to do anything for her loved ones. She is also a determined and stubborn person as she wants to finish the labyrinth to see what her identity is. She has been stubborn in this matter forcing herself through all her obstacles and not listening anyone including Glenn.

Physical Power
Celica is weak when it comes to physical power due to her tender muscles. But it still unknown whether or not she is able to use the military hand to hand combat.
Magic Usage
Celica is capable to cast numerous B-rank spells easily with simple commands like "待ってろ" (wait), "消えろ"(disappear) or "失せろ"(fuck off). She favors monstrous area-of-effect like elemental magic that covers a lot of area; Celica also possess ridiculously high firepower and capable of wiping off many enemies at once as she can cast triple elemental spells simultaneously. The World Arcana
The world arcana is a original magic that was created by Celica. The magic stops time and freezes everything except for the user. Celica mentioned that there are complications in activating the arcana, such as, if not used properly it may risk her losing her magic forever.
Mantril Sword
The mantril sword is alchemy type sword that was previously owned by her late friend who was a hero of humanity called "Sword Princess" during the Magical War. Celica activates the spell called "Altenate Black Magic [Load Experience]"(黒魔改【ロード・エクスペリエンス】) to temporarily make up for her lack of fighting skills by "loading" battle memories of any weapon's possessor that resides in those weapons, it makes her temporary unstoppable in swordplay if she were to cast this spell. While these feats are easy for her, it does consume a lot of mana and she can only uses them a few times if her magical capacities deteriorates in any way.
Plot
New Magic Instructor
Celica suggested him to teach at the academy as a substitute teacher which Glenn denied immediately stating that he was not fit for the job, which Celica agreed that he didn't have a teacher's license. Glenn asked her to stop forcing reality into someone who acting cool, where Celica stated that he doesn't have a choice but to accept this offer.
Glenn questioned, if he rebelled about that where Celica threatened him whether he preferred to be struck by lightning, or be burned in a fire or be frozen in ice causing Glenn to fall at her feet pleading her to support him. Celica smiled at him and starts chanting the spell "Extinction Ray" causing a a thing ray of light which annihilated a part of the building. Glenn changed his mind, when Celica threatened him that the next one won't miss.
Celica sat at the top of the academy complaining about Glenn being late for his first day; Later she appeared behind Halley Astray, menacing him to not talk ill about Glenn in front of her, causing Halley to run away in fear. She apologised to the headmaster for Glenn's actions and said that she took full responsibility for Glenn's achievements and everything he does in the academy, putting her reputation at stake. The headmaster got surprised at her words and questioned her relationship with Glenn, which Celica replied with smile saying that she wanted him to have a good and full life.[4] Later Celica sits at the of the academy roof sighing and thinking about how she persuaded Glenn to join the academy as a substitute teacher.
Celica later appears in one of Glenn's flashbacks when Celica introduced him to Magic.[5]. After days passed Celica commends her former pupil for his teachings while sitting on the headmaster's table boating about her apprentice leaving an irritated Halley Astry who vows to get Glenn thrown out of the academy. Celica appears to a contemplating Glenn as they trade banter for a while as she tells him of a meeting that all professors would need to attend and informs him that he had to stay behind as to his class needs to recover some lessons due to their old teacher missing. Sistine and Rumia appear asking Glenn about a recent lecture as Celica smiles and walks off.
Magical Festival
Glenn called for a meeting between the headmaster and Celica, he asked for money as Celica blasted him away for wasting her time as Glenn called her out on this.
During the magic festival, she was impressed by the prowess and talents of Glenn's class but her joy was met with disapproval by others who reminded her the Queen was in her presence. Celica then spoke to the queen in a casual manner though was reprimanded, but the queen told everyone it was fine as they were associates from the past and she tells the latter Glenn is the boy she taught.
